Prehnite is a stone from the Silicate family. This natural stone offers vitreous sparkles in springtime colors, from light green to yellow-green. Although Prehnite is not well documented, it is nonetheless appreciated in the world of lithotherapy for its beneficial properties and, above all, for its beauty, and is widely used in jewelry. History of Prehnite Prehnite takes its name from Hendrik von Prehn, a Dutch mineralogist who first discovered the stone in 1774, at the Cape of Good Hope. However, the name "prehnite" was not coined until 1783 by German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. Later, it was discovered that the stone had already been reported in 1771 by a French astronomer, Alexis-Marie de Rochon. It was then analyzed by French mineralogist Balthazar Georges Sage. He gave it the name "Cape Chrysolite", but this name has now been banned and only Prehnite is used to name the stone. The history of Prehnite is not very rich, due to the paucity of documentation.


Prehnite was considered a rare stone by the shamans  Country Email List of South Africa. Prehnite forms in magmatic and metamorphic rocks, and in hydrothermal alteration zones such as hydrothermal fluids. Prehnite forms in silica and calcium-rich magma. Minerals such as calcium and aluminum mix with hydrothermal fluids, crystallize and form Prehnite. Prehnite is best known for its pale green color, but blue and yellow varieties are also available.



Origin of Prehnite Prehnite's main deposits are found in South Africa, Australia, China, India, Scotland and the USA. Prehnite's hardness is 6 on the Mohs scale.
